It's ok to be needy sometimes. We all get to the point where we desperately crave the attention of the opposite sex. But before you drool all over this person, keep this in mind: people will treat you like dirt and walk all over you if they think you'll always be there to take it!
It doesn't matter how nice they were when you first met them. You will force them to be mean if you continue to cling to them like a magnet.
Perspective is one of the keys to keeping passion alive in a relationship. Perspective means, having other things in your life that give you pleasure and fulfillment other than the one you're presently obsessed with.
When we have a supportive circle of family and friends, a career we love, kids who love us and hobbies we enjoy, it's difficult to be overly obsessed with just one person.
On the other hand, if we have a job that we hate, are jealous of our friends, hate being around our own family, and so forth, you better believe we're gonna stick like glue to anybody who helps us to escape those painful thoughts associated with these things. And this is why we do it. We cling to people, places and things that help us to escape our less than perfect reality.
There's nothing necessarily wrong with this, we all need breaks sometimes. However, it's important to have something else going on in your life, because if you get too clingy with the one you have you are going to lose them very rapidly, even if they decide to stay with you.
Whenever you're around this person just say to yourself, "Alright, let's see how it goes. Maybe they'll grow on me, maybe not." This is the best attitude to have because if things go well, great, but if they don't go so well, you won't be pressed.
If you are really starting to like this person just tell them with a smile, "You know, you're a great person to be around" in a nice, casual way. Like Teddy said, "It feels so good loving somebody when somebody loves you back." Saying this, you don't have to go completely gaga over them and embarrass yourself just because you temporarily like them. Most people don't like that!
Be cool! If you stay together long enough you'll get to the point where freely expressing your love and affection will be a joy to the other person, instead of a turnoff.
So, once again, make sure that you have a happy all around life so that this person won't be your only source of happiness. If you need to make new friends, find out what you're interested in. Find the spark that gives your life purpose and meaning? Once you finish soul searching, go to the places and events where people who are walking on the same path might be. You'll be surprised at who you might meet there.
Reconnect with your family, if you think it's necessary. Mentor a child. Adopt a child from a third world country. Find a hobby that you like and join a team or club that practices that hobby. Join a community organization or a grassroots organization. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, shelter or rehabilitation center. Do something that not only gives your life purpose but serves a vital function for mankind. Plus, you'll feel great after helping others, thus eliminating your need for only one person's affection.
If the job is the problem, either get a new one or be thankful that you
have a job in this day and age.
Having a relationship should be one of the great things in your life not the only great thing. And as a result they'll like you more. Because they'll see that winning your affection, when you have so many other things going on, is not that easy. And people desire most what they have to work hard for.
